The Suicide Squad are bad guys. It’s what they do. The first official trailer for the upcoming “Suicide Squad” hit YouTube on Tuesday, and it’s been our best look so far at these last-chancers and anti-heroes making good on that.
Based on the DC Comics team of the same name, Task Force X, AKA the Suicide Squad, are a group of supervillains given a chance at redemption by the government. The only snag is that the “chance” is a series of incredibly dangerous missions that none of them are expected to survive.

David Ayer directs the all-star ensemble cast, including Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang (no prize for guessing his power). Jared Leto is also on board, playing Harley’s squeeze-slash-homicidal maniac, the Joker.
Ben Affleck is set to don the cape and cowl again for “Suicide Squad”, reprising his role as Batman and providing a very serious counterpoint to Leto’s Joker. So, spoiler alert, we can all be fairly confident that Batman survives his confrontation with Superman in the March 2016 blockbuster, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”.
It also means that Suicide Squad will be the latest entry in DC’s budding cinematic universe, following up 2013’s “Man of Steel” and the upcoming “Batman v Superman”.
You can see the self-appointed “worst heroes ever” in the “Suicide Squad” in theatres on August 5, 2016.
