Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi capital of Vietnam

Hoan Kiem Lake – Ngoc Son Temple is the leading destination in Hanoi or the capital in Vietnam. Both these destinations are the most scenic land of Hanoi.

Previously, the lake also has been called Luc Thuy Lake (because water is blue all year around), Navy Lake (because this lake was used to train marine infantry in the past)…

Hanoi - Hoan Kiem 1By the fifteenth century, the lake was renamed Hoan Kiem Lake, tied to a legend:  a magic sword was returned to Golden Tortoise: Once crowned after victory over Chinese army, the Emperor Le Loi fixed the Vietnam capital in Hanoi today. Once, the king had a boat excursion on Luc Thuy Lake, suddenly appeared a large tortoise. Le Loi stretched out the sword which flew toward the tortoise. Turtle dived with sword into the bottom of the lake. After this event, the lake is called Hoan Kiem Lake (Returned Sword Lake) or Sword Lake until now.

Hanoi _ Hoan Kiem 2According to legend, the Turtle Tower in the middle of Sword Lake was the place where the Golden Tortoise reclaimed the magic sword. When it’s warm, Hoan Kiem turtle emerges still occasionally on the hills to have sunbath. So the legend is more convinced. Although this is a legend but the Turtle Tower becomes certainly one of the most scenic sites in Hanoi capital which is indispensable while travel in Vietnam.

Hanoi _ Hoan Kiem 3Around the Sword Lake, there are many other famous monuments which reinforce the ancient values of Hanoi: The Huc Bridge, Ngoc Son Temple, Pen Tower, Ms. Kieu Temple, Temple of King Le Thai, Hoa Phong Tower…

Around the Sword Lake, you also have the opportunity to breathe fresh air because the lake is covered by a green space. So, the lake is also named “Flower bouquet in the heart city “…

Hanoi _Hoan Kiem 4The surface area of the Sword Lake is a large mirror reflecting ancient trees, weeping willows, the roof of ancient temples, old towers covered by moss…. That’s why all travelers in Hanoi cannot ignore this poetic destination.
