As part of his 10-day world tour seeking out the “newest technology,” Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima is making stops at well-known studios and meeting with famous people. On January 19, Kojima had a busy day, even stopping for a chat with Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams.
He says he met with Abrams to “inform him about my new studio,” a reference to the new version of Kojima Productions that was established in December after Kojima officially left Konami.

Kojima didn’t provide any indication as to what he discussed with Abrams–your imagination will have to do. For his part, Abrams is also working on a game, SpyJinx, which his team at Bad Robot is developing alongside Infinity Blade studio Chair Entertainment.
Also on January 19, Kojima visited Sony’s motion-capture studio in San Diego (where he got his face scanned) and capped off his evening by having dinner with Hollywood veteran Kyle Cooper.
Cooper created the title sequences for many movies, including Braveheart and Home Alone. He also did that job for several Metal Gear Solid games, including Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
Kojima’s world tour only just started. We’ll keep you up to date as we learn more about who he’s visiting with and what he’s doing. Joining him on the tour is PS4 lead system architect Mark Cerny.
It’s possible that Kojima and Cerny are using this world tour in part to find a new game engine to run Kojima Productions’ upcoming PS4 and PC game. The Fox Engine, which was used for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, belongs to Konami. Back in December, Kojima said he was undecided about what engine his new game would use.
Ending months of speculation, Kojima officially exited Konami in December. His new studio is called Kojima Productions, which was the name of his studio while he worked for Konami. Check out this post for more on Kojima’s split from Konami and his ambitions for his upcoming game.
